Deficit target should be based on GDP: Chief Statistician

CSO has come out with a new series of national accounts with 2011-12 as the base year for computing the gross domestic product. On the back of those changes, it announced that FY14 GDP growth has been revised to 6.9 percent. TCA Anant, Chief Statistician of India says the fiscal deficit target should be based on GDP.

The Central Statistics Office or CSO has come out with a new series of national accounts with 2011-12 as the base year for computing the gross domestic product. On the back of those changes, the CSO announced that FY14 GDP growth has been revised to 6.9 percent from 4.7 percent earlier. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, TCA Anant, Chief Statistician of India says the fiscal deficit target should be based on GDP.
