Supreme Court advocate Harish Salve welcomed the apex court's move and told CNBC-TV18 that the court has laid to rest any uncertainty as far as the 2G auctions were concerned.

"By setting the date of the auction on or before the end of August, these licences could work till September 7. After the conclusion of the auction there may be a few days of administrative adjustment, but I think that lays the matter to bed."
"Some of my clients have also expressed requests for the auctions to be concluded as soon as possible. The request of the government for 400 days means that for a period of 13 months, uncertainty continues. Nobody wants to continue to operate in uncertainty." "Nobody is going to make capital investment on cancelled licences. Companies can manage for about three to four months, but not beyond that. So, I think it's good the court put the matter to rest.
He also allayed fears of the government disobeying the Supreme Court's order on conducting the auctions on the said date. "I think by the tone and tenor of the hearing today, if the government does not play ball, they will have some hard questions to answer." Also watch the accompanying video
