Export norms need to be altered to procure more food: NAC

NAC has opposed the efforts carried out by the Rangarajan Committee to moderate the extent of the Right to Food under the proposed act, stating that India can procure and provide more food if the exports are stopped at least for a small period of time.

UPA government-led National Advisory Council (NAC) is adamant on its demand of providing the Right to Food Act to 72% of Indians in the first phase and 75% in the second phase instead of providing the mandated 35 kilos of grains per family to below the poverty line families, which will work out to 46% of rural India and 28% of urban India, under the Food Security Bill, as declared by the Rangarajan Committee report.
