Eicher Motor has launched its new 411 cc bike ‘Himalayan’, which is tailor made for mountain motorcycling is the word coming in from Managing Director Siddharth Lal.
Royal Enfield, which is the two-wheeler arm of Eicher Motors, currently sells various popular models like Bullet, Classic, Thunderbird and Continental GT.
The bike brings about the equilibrium between man, machine and terrain, said Lal adding that the bike was very important for their global expansion plans but before that we want the market to develop in India first.
With this bike we are not entering any existing market but would be creating a market for it, said Lal.
Lal said the inspiration for building such a bike was always there because the army has been riding the Royal Enfield into the Himalayas and so the bike along with the Bullet became the definitive motorcycles for touring the Himalayas.
For the last 15 years it has been in our mind to build this bike but the time wasn’t right, said Lal and so it was just 5 years ago when we started putting real energy and money behind building purpose built adventure motorcycle, especially with Indians becoming more adventurous.
