The strike at the Nashik plant of Ceat Tyre entered the eight day today and there was no sign of an amicable solution to the issue as both the sides are refusing to budge.
The unionised employees numbering over 1,200 went on a flash strike from last Thursday following a tiff between a contractual labourer and a union worker.
The company employs around 2,000 people at the plant and 40% of them are contractual employees.
Our demand is removal of company's personal manager Rajendra Joshi and end the labour contract given to one Sanjay Services, union president Praveen Mandhare told PTI in Nashik today. The management is not willing to meet either of these two conditions saying this is a one-off event in the past five years, and the current incident does not call for any such measures.
When contacted Ceat Tyre Executive Director Arnab Banerjee refused to talk saying, "I have nothing to update you as there is no improvement to the log-jam."
The company rolls out around 200 tonne tyres of various types and production at the plant has come to a standstill since the strike began.
The tri-partite meeting between labour commissioner Arvind Patil, union representatives and the management on Wednesday did not make any headway, Mandhare said.
