This is the first time that the consumers' interest has been upheld, though not directly by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) but by an order passed on realty major DLF. CCI imposed a fine of Rs 630 crore on DLF for abusing its dominant position. CCI also issued a 'cease and desist' order against imposing unfair conditions on the flat buyers.
Satisfied by the decision, former chairman of the CCI, Vinod Dhall says it is a landmark for the organization. "With this order CCI has demonstrated that it is more confident and is willing to exercise its powers under the act," Dhall says. He further says that though the commission has argued the case well enough but there maybe vulnerability in the area of determination of dominance.
