Coal and gas supply issues cloud GVK Power's bright days

Diminishing supply of gas and coal are putting pressure on power companies to cut back production. CNBC-TV18 catches up with the chief financial officer of GVK Power & Infrastructure, Isaac George, to get an insight to the situation and the way forward for his company.

Even as the festival of lights nears, looks like the State is in for a prolonged period of darkness owing to shortage of power supply. According to a report by CLSA, as many as 29 power stations of the 86 coal-based power projects in India are currently operating with less than four days coal stock and 44 with less than seven days stock. Power minister, Sushil Shinde, has however assured better times by the end this week as coal supply to power plants is seen slowly picking up.


CNBC-TV18 catches up with the chief financial officer of GVK Power & Infrastructure, Isaac George, to get an insight to the situation and the way forward for his company. GVK has a 540MW coal-based power plant under construction in Punjab.
