Telecom M&A norms are set to be relaxed soon and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has sent spectrum recommendations to the Department of Telecom. Siddharth Zarabi, economic editor of CNBC-TV18 catches up with JS Sarma, chairman of TRAI for an exclusive interview.
Sarma clears the air that he is dealing with merger to telecom licenses and not merger of companies as perceived. However, the suggested norm also seems to tread upon company mergers too as it says that merger will not be permitted if the resulting company has over 60% market share.
