With the US immigration bill having cleared the senate hurdle with an overwhelming majority, Ganesh Natarajan, CEO of Zensar Technologies says his main concern regarding the bill is the rising costs of doing business, followed by the difficulty to place people on projects.
Talking to CNBC-TV18, he says the bill will still be debated in the senate and eventually there is a process of what is called reconciliation, where the house version of the bill and the senate version of the bill is reconciled. in all these stages there are possibilities for amendment, and making changes, he adds. Below is the edited transcript of his discussion with CNBC-TV18 You have to understand that there are three impacts possible. One is the increase in fees for all visas. The second is the provision that will inhibit the ability to place people on visas in customer projects and the third is the 50-50, which is that 50 percent of their employees in America must be residents or US citizens. The third one is the easier part. If you look at my company, out of 800 people in America, over 400 are already citizens or residents. So, that’s not an issue. What we are concerned is the rising costs of doing business and that is obviously a concern. It is difficult to place people on projects – the whole purpose of sending people is for them to work on projects. having said that this is the first step, because the house of legislators has to now clear the whole thing. It will still be debated in the senate and eventually there is a process of what is called reconciliation which is where the house version of the bill and the senate version of the bill is reconciled. In all these stages there are possibilities for amendment and making changes.
