The markets have been exercised with a lot of these fears about inflation, shrinking margins.  Banks have underperformed in last three months. Are these fears warranted? R Sridharan, MD of State Bank of India and Sushil Muhnot, ED at IDBI Bank discuss on CNBC-TV18.

Sridharan said that deposit rates have been hiked sharply but does not expect this hike to pressurise banking margins. He expects banks to maintain net interest margins in the short-term. He added that he expects credit to pick up in the coming months. Muhnot too believes that the deposit rate hike is unlikely to have a major impact on the net interest margins of banks Below is a verbatim transcript of their interview with CNBC-TV18
