The auto industry continues its growth momentum in the year 2011 with double-digit growth for the month of January. Automobile sales in the month of January 2011 saw robust growth with most majors from the space posting significantly higher numbers. However, there continued to be a few blotches like TVS Motors, who posted dismal set of numbers. CNBC-TV18's Swati Khandelwal Jain reports in details.
Maruti Suzuki: The country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki sold 1,09,743 vehicles in January 2011 as against 95,649 vehicles sold in January 2010, a growth of 14.7%. Of this, 1,00,422 units were sold domestically and 9,321 units were exported in the said month, a growth of 23.8% and 36%, respectively. Though the sales growth was in-line with expectations, exports continue to see decline. Tata Motors: India's biggest truckmaker too sold an increasing number of vehicles in the month of January. Its total sales stood at 75,423 units versus 67,441 units sold in December 2010. The company sold 23,776 light commercial vehicles, recording a growth of 17% (YoY). Nano sales too surged a significant 68% to 6,703 (YoY). TVS Motors: TVS's January performance was disappointing as sales decline nearly 4% month on month to 1,65,000 as against 1,71,000 lakh units.
