India's largest passenger car maker Maruti Suzuki has increased production at its Gurgaon plant to meet strong demand for its multi-utility vehicle Ertiga launched earlier this year, even as its Manesar plant remains shut.

Maruti's Gurgaon unit production has been hiked by nearly one-fifth and it can now roll out 2,400 units a day, CNBC-TV18 said quoting sources. The company normally produces 2,000-2,100 vehicles per day at Gurgaon. It has increased production of Ertiga, which currently has booking orders of over 30,000 units, officials told the broadcast station. Production of the Eeco van has also been doubled to 250 units per day, they added. Vendors too have increased supply of key components for the Eeco and Ertiga, the report said. Meanwhile, there is no end in sight to the lockout at Maruti's Manesar plant. The plant has been shut since a workers unrest at the plant left a general manager dead and several executives injured last month. According to industry body Assocham, the lockout is costing Maruti Rs 90 crore per day. Maruti Suzuki shares were up 1% at Rs 1,151.65 on NSE in afternoon trade on Thursday.
