The National Green Tribunal (NGT) which is hearing a petition filed by Tata Motors says the Supreme Court's decision to allow fresh registration of big diesel vehicles does not automatically lift the ban on the registration of new commercial vehicles, reports CNBC-TV18.
Last December, the Supreme Court had slapped a ban on diesel vehicles with engine size of over 2000 cc. Tata Motors had moved the NGT then seeking clarity on whether trucks were included within the gamut of the term "vehicles".
However, before the application could be taken up by the NGT, the Apex Court took up the case and gave a clear order vacating the diesel vehicles ban. For a closure on the matter, Tata Motors appeared before the NGT today where the NGT held it is important that it vacates its own order on registration of commercial vehicles as it needs to hear the views of the government and other auto companies. Seeking more time for deliberation on the matter, the NGT has fixed the next hearing for September 27. Watch video for more...
