The monsoon session of the Parliament has hit the home stretch, but there seems to be no sign of a truce between the government and the opposition regarding the important bills – Land Bill and Goods and services tax (GST).CNBC-TV18’s Sheeren Bhan reports that Congress and TMC has asked for time to look into the proposed amendments. There has been no decision on the GST as well in the monsoon session. Main focus of the Congress is resignation of External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj. Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi said that the party will only stop protests if Swaraj accepts her part in the Lalit Modi controversy. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley hit back saying Congress is isolated in its protest and all the other parties favour a discussion. Another roadblock is the parliamentary panel's report on the Land Bill will only be tabled in the next session of the Parliament. Congress is demanding a vote on some clauses of the bill at the select committee despite the government accepting to bring back consent and social impact assessment into the bill.
