GST rollout: Govt begins process to set up IT network

It is rare to see large contract coming in from the government but Goods and Service Tax (GST) is the large deal for the country. Sources suggest government begins process to set up IT network for GST.  In fact the government has been in the process for quite sometime but started looking out for IT consultants or system integrators for setting up the IT infra network project only now.

This could possibly be the largest project coming in by the government with first of all government starting with a pilot proposal. So they have stopped and asked for RFQ – request for quotation from software as well as hardware players for the pilot proposal.

The pilot proposal itself is worth Rs 2,000 crore and so, there is a possibility that when the final deal does come out it will be above Rs 4,000 crore.

The companies that have been invited so far include Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Cognizant and HCL Tech.
