Cipla made a marked shift in 2013 when it began to move away from being a promoter-driven company to being run by freshly-recruited external professional management team. However, over the last 3-4 months, massive churn took place at the drug firm, with many exits seen at the top and mid-level management posts, many of which sources say are still lying vacant.
The most prominent name in the mass exodus is that of its CFO Rajesh Garg, who quit to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. Company CEO Subhanu Saxena is overseeing finance functions in the interim. Cipla's India business head Sameer Goel too quit for personal reasons.
Global general counsel Murali Nilakantan too quit in February 2015. Gautam Rohidkar has taken over since. Samina Vazirelli took additional charge of HRA after Human Resources head Navin Garg left the company.
Other exits include CSR head Sudhir Sharma, Chief Information Officer Arun Gupta and Licensing Head Shubhra Mehrotra.
When contacted, Cipla told CNBC-TV18: "Such instances are "quite normal" in a dynamic organisation. In some cases, such changes are driven by changes in personal interests as well. The company went through a phase of bringing talent from the outside and the company now has enough talent within to grow and develop the internal bench."
The company, however, did not respond to specific queries on replacements to vacant posts.
