After recusal of two judges, a new bench has been constituted in the Supreme Court to hear the petitions of Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal and Essar Group promoter Ravi Ruia in a case of alleged irregularities related to allocation of additional 2G spectrum in 2002, reports CNBC-TV18's Malvika Jain. Mittal and Ruia have pleaded the Supreme Court to quash summons issued by the 2G trial court.

After Justices Dave and Vikramajit Sen recused themselves from hearing the case of quashing of summons issued in the name of Ravi Ruia and Sunil Bharti Mittal by the 2G trial court, the Supreme Court reconstituted the bench. Chief Justice of India Altamas Kabir along with Justice Nijjar will take up the matter on Thursday, April 25.
The 2G trial court, suo moto, based on the chargesheet submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the 2G spectrum and additional spectrum grant case in 2002 to Bharti Airtel and Vodafone along with evidence on record, decided to summon Mittal and Ruia despite the fact that they had not been named by the CBI in its chargesheet.
Whatever decision the Supreme Court takes on Thursday, it will be very crucial for the case at the 2G trial court because the hearings have been postponed till date.
