In a latest development in the ongoing strike at Chakan, 88 unions belonging to different companies like Volkswagen and JCB and in the industrial belt of Pimpri-Chinchwad-Chakan in Maharashtra have announced their support for the striking Bajaj workers.

Representatives of the umbrella organisation representing these unions, the Shramik Ekta Mahasangh, are likely to attend that meeting as well. Sources add that these unions may take out a protest march on Thursday to show their support to the striking Bajaj workers and have gone as far as threatening to stop work at their own companies if the strike at the Bajaj Auto plant was not resolved at the earliest.
Representatives at Bajaj Auto claim the announcements are nothing but pressure tactics and maintain that almost 600 employees have resumed work. The management also added that between the plants at Chakan and Waluj, the company has been able cover almost 80 percent of the daily target of 3,000 units of the best-selling, Pulsar motorcycle.
