Pension Bill vote likely in Parliament today

The Congress party is in no mood to not let go through the Pension Bill in the Parliament. Senior leaders in the party have been reaching out to other political leaders, who have expressed their opposition to the Bill.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill is likely to undergo a vote in the Parliament on Wednesday. The government seems to be determined to get it passed in the Lok Sabha. It has also issued a whip to all Congress members of parliament (MPs) to be present in the house at 2 pm, reports CNBC-TV18 managing editor Shereen Bhan. The Bill has already been tabled in Parliament by Finance Minster P Chidambaram despite repeated adjournments. 

Also read: DA to be hiked by 10%; help 80 lakh employees, pensioners Senior Congress leaders Kapil Sibal, Kamal Nath and Chidambaram are trying to convince Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mulayam Singh Yadav who has expressed opposition to the Bill. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is looking to postpone the debate by a day. Congress leaders are also reaching out to LK Advani to get it passed on Wednesday itself. Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath also hinted at possible extension of the House to get crucial bills passed.
