In what can be the largest IT outsourcing deal from the telecom space, CNBC-TV18 learns that Alcatel-Lucent is likely to open bids for an IT deal worth USD 1 billion in the next one-two months. Kritika Saxena reports that the deal is expected to be given to a single vendor for eight-nine years for data analytics and infrastructure management services (IMS). IMS generally commands a large amount of capital, and that explains the size of the deal.

The deal is expected to span across seven to nine geographies, largely in the Europe and US region.

So if this deal goes through, it definitely would be a big boost for the IT player who wins the auction as USD one billion contract coming in from telecom will be crucial.

So far Infosys, Tech Mahindra and IBM are known to have decided to bid for the Alcatel deal. However, no one has officially commented on it yet.
