Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched "Quantum 5G FWA", the country’s first 100% indigenous, SIM-less fixed-wireless access solution in Hyderabad with plans to launch it in other cities.
BSNL plans to extend pilots to Bengaluru, Pondicherry, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Gwalior, and Chandigarh by September 2025.
Introductory tariffs will start at Rs 99 for 100 Mbps and Rs 1,499 for 300 Mbps plans. The 5G standalone (SA) core will enable enterprise-grade, SLA-backed services for MSMEs and smart factories.
The service in Hyderabad was inaugurated at BSNL’s Ameerpet Exchange by A. Robert J. Ravi, Chairman & Managing Director, BSNL/MTNL.
Promising fibre-like speeds without the need for trenching or SIM cards, Quantum 5G FWA leverages BSNL’s home-grown Direct-to-Device platform to deliver gigabit-class connectivity.
“Quantum 5G FWA demonstrates how Indian engineers can create world-class connectivity solutions,” Ravi said. “This is just the beginning, we will expand to more cities and add more features in the coming months.”
BSNL said the devices auto-authenticate on BSNL’s 5G network without physical SIMs — a national first at production scale.
The entire system — core, radio access network (RAN), and customer equipment — is designed and built by Indian vendors under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Ameerpet trials clocked 980 Mbps download, 140 Mbps upload speeds with sub-10 ms latency, which BSNL said is ideal for UHD streaming, cloud gaming, and hybrid work.
The self-install gateways cover 85% of Hyderabad households using BSNL’s existing tower grid, eliminating the need for fibre laying, the telco said.
