Bengaluru may get five corporations within existing BBMP limits

Bengaluru is likely to be divided into five corporations within the existing limits of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

In April 2025, Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot gave assent to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Bill, 2024, which proposes the creation of multiple corporations to improve urban governance.

The Bill allows for the formation of up to seven city corporations under a new umbrella body—the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) -which will coordinate governance and streamline the functioning of civic agencies.
