Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan has expressed his views on the ongoing debate over India's youth working 70 hours a week, stating that it is up to each individual. Gopalakrishnan also said there are many things India needs to do apart from working 70 hours a week, including improving work productivity and increasing investments in research.

"I would leave it to the individual. There are many things India needs to do...We have to get more scientists. We have to get more research from lab to market and 70 hours is one of the areas," He told Moneycontrol on the sidelines of the Infosys Prize event in Bengaluru on November 15th.

Gopalakrishnan's words come at a time when Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy's statement that youngsters should work 70 hours a week stirred controversy among India's netizens.

Murthy said that youngsters should work 70 hours a week if India wants to compete with economies that have made tremendous progress in the last two to three decades.
