Angel One has assured integrity of its data and denied any new leaks in a statement through its social media handle X, in response to a news report that claimed personal data of 8 million customers was breached on Tuesday.
Angel One said the incident of data leak is not new and happened over a year ago.
"We want to confirm that Angel One's customer data is secure, and there has been no new data leak incident. The recent media news pertains to an incident that occurred in April 2023, which was promptly handled, secured and reported to relevant authorities." The broking house said in the statement.
The news report that appeared in The Economic Times quoted a cyber security consultant who has accessed the data, and said, "Typically, in such cases, there is a demand for ransom by the threat actors, but we do not know what exactly transpired between the hackers and the company, since the data dump is a year and a half old."
Shares of Angel One are quiet but holding in the green in an otherwise weak market on July 10.
Just days ago, Bharti Airtel too had denied reports of a data leak, calling it an 'attempt to tarnish Airtel’s reputation by vested interests'.
