Today is International Day of Happiness. A good reminder that happiness is not about chasing big milestones, it’s often found in the small, everyday moments. So, take a break from the daily grind and try these simple (and slightly funny) ways to boost your mood.
The World Happiness Report 2025 has ranked Finland as the happiest country in the world, maintaining its position at the top. India, however, is ranked 118th, reflecting a lower happiness score compared to many other countries. The rankings are based on various factors, including income levels, social support, life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and perceptions of corruption.

Mind your own business: The less you involve yourself in unnecessary drama, the lighter and happier you’ll feel. Cook your own meal: Even if it turns out slightly burnt or entirely different from what you planned, cooking is a fun way to unwind. Plus, the sense of accomplishment (even for a barely edible dish) is real! And if all else fails, there’s always takeout.
Watch memes and reels: Scrolling through funny videos can be a great mood booster, until you realise you've lost two hours watching cat videos and DIY hacks you’ll never try. Enjoy the laughs, but set a time limit before you end up questioning life at 3 AM.

Read jokes (Not online troll): A good joke can instantly lift your mood. Whether it’s a classic one-liner or a lighthearted comedy show, laughter is an easy and effective stress reliever. You can also read some good punches in the comment section of social media posts. They are hilarious. However, avoid internet trolls, they aren’t funny, and they definitely won’t make you happy.
Watch something hilarious: Rewatch your favourite sitcom, pick a lighthearted movie, or if you’re feeling adventurous, tune into a saas-bahu serial. The dramatic zoom-ins, exaggerated make-up looks, and over-the-top storylines are unintentionally some of the best comedy you’ll ever see.
Find happiness within, or go shopping: While meditation and mindfulness practices are beneficial, sometimes a little shopping can boost our mood too. Whether it's a book, a new gadget, or your favourite snack, small indulgences can bring joy. Just remember not to go overboard; true happiness isn't about maxing out your credit card.
