Diwali brings a sparkle to Indian homes and dating profiles alike. This year, romance takes on a new beat featuring emotional tidying brief matches that burn bright, and relationships that get the family stamp of approval. A recent poll by dating app QuackQuack asked over 10,000 Indian users between 22 and 40 about their festive dating habits. The results show that holiday romance has become a mix of enjoyment, self-reflection, and Indian flair.
Emotional “Bio Cleanse” Before the Festivities
Much like we declutter our homes before Diwali, singles are decluttering their dating lives. Around 34% of users above the age of 28 said they’re deleting old chats, updating bios, and letting go of past romantic baggage before diving into the festive mood. “I realised I still had my ex’s favourite book quote in my bio,” laughed one Chennai-based 31-year-old participant, echoing a sentiment many can relate to. The idea is simple — start the new festive season fresh, emotionally and digitally.

The Rise of “Phooljhari Matches”
Named after the bright, short-lived sparkler, “Phooljhari Matches” are all about instant connection and light-hearted fun. The survey found that three in seven daters have tried short, sweet festive flings this season — bonds that ignite quickly and fizzle out with a smile. But not all are fleeting; one in three of these Diwali spark connections go on to evolve into something deeper. Experts say this trend reflects a desire for genuine, low-pressure interactions in a year defined by self-care and social reset.
Sibling Screening and Sanskari Profiles
If your sibling has suddenly started swiping through your dating apps — you’re not alone. Around 23% of male daters aged 22–27, especially from Tier-2 cities, admitted to seeking their siblings’ approval before meeting someone new. The festive season, often marked by family time, is bringing an interesting twist to dating — turning siblings into unofficial matchmakers.
Meanwhile, the classic “cool” dating profile is getting a “sanskaari” upgrade. Users now prefer to showcase a more family-friendly image. They're switching out edgy descriptions for heart-warming captions and photos that highlight tradition. This trend leans towards classic selfies, sentimental words, and a charm that fits the Diwali spirit.
