Sugar is all around us — in desserts, packaged foods, beverages and even foods we consider “healthy.” A bit of naturally occurring sugar from fruits is fine but if we eat too much added sugar it can be seriously bad for health. Research connects high sugar consumption to obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and even early aging. Most people are consuming much more sugar than they realize is healthy, on average.

But what if you quit added sugar for just one month? It might be tough at first as you add it in and your body adjusts. Sugar can impact dopamine levels, so one can experience any cravings or withdrawal symptoms, such as irritability or headaches. But after a couple days, your body actually recalibrates and you start feeling awesome. Paring out sugar for 30 days isn’t just about weight loss; it’ll benefit overall wellness, your mood, and, in the long run, increase your lifespan.
