According to Dr Prachi Sharma Vats, BAMS and Ayurveda expert at Sheopal’s, “When agni is balanced, you feel light, active, and mentally alert. But when it weakens due to erratic eating habits, late nights, or stress, toxins (ama) accumulate, leading to fatigue, poor digestion, and low immunity.”

The notion of metabolism often conjures up images of calorie-burning machines, gym workouts and fad diets. Ayurveda, however, views it differently – as an inner flame: subtle, vital and worth nurturing. In an age of long hours sat at desks, processed food at the ready and smartphones lighting up at all hours, this flame can flicker. When it does, the result is not only weight gain, but also poor digestion, low energy and a foggy mind.
