WWE legend and actor John Cena has spoken about his hair loss and recent transplant, calling the transformation life-changing.
In an interview for People's August cover story, Cena revealed that he underwent a hair transplant in November 2024, a move he says has not only boosted his confidence but also helped him in his acting career.
The 48-year-old, who is currently on his farewell WWE tour before retiring at the end of 2025, said that the journey began when WWE fans pointed out his bald spot, prompting him to consider options.

He said, "The WWE viewers don’t let you get away with phoning it in, because they’ll eat you alive. As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light."
“The audience held up signs calling me ‘The bald John Cena,’” he said. “They didn’t let me ignore it — and I’m grateful.”
John Cena stressed that there’s nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to getting a hair transplant. He described it as a straightforward surgery where individual hair follicles are relocated from one part of the scalp to another. “They don’t do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another,” Cena explained. “If somebody’s going to sweat me for that, I don’t think there’s any shame in that. It completely changed the course of my life.”
“I now have a routine: red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner — and I also got a hair transplant last November,” he said.

“I hate that I didn’t do it 10 years ago,” Cena admitted. “There’s still a stigma around it, but the reality is that seven or eight out of ten men deal with hair loss.”
He also acknowledged how important appearance is for his acting roles, saying that having more hair can help land different parts. “A different hairstyle might be the difference between getting a role or not — and I want to keep doing what I love.”
Cena recently lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, signaling a symbolic close to his in-ring journey. Reflecting on retirement, Cena said he's aware he’s no longer in his prime. “I’m not as strong or fast anymore. I promised myself that when I started slowing down, I’d step aside to make room for the next generation.”
He added that health and his relationship now take top priority. “I want to stay physically, mentally, and spiritually healthy. As long as I have that — and love and curiosity — I’ll be okay.”
