It is not unusual to see someone drinking a soda with their meal. While it makes for a refreshing accompaniment, it doesn’t aid digestion as most Indian men believe. In fact, several studies show that consumption of soft drinks disrupts your gut health, besides leading to weight gain and the risk of chronic illnesses like diabetes.

Nutritionist Suman Agarwal took to her Instagram account on November 5 and clarified that these sodas are not beneficial for the digestive health of men. “Indian men should stop drinking soda for their digestive issues. Cramps, gas, or acidity—the first thing that comes to your mind is to drink soda. Many have this habit of having soda along with their meal or after their meal,” she said.

Soda is not just bad for your stomach; it also disrupts your gut microbiome, promoting the growth of harmful bacteria and yeast, and this increases the inflammation in your gut.”
