Prostate cancer develops in the prostate gland, a small walnut-sized gland located below the bladder in men. It is responsible for producing seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm. According to the World Health Organisation, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men, with over 1.4 million new cases reported globally each year.

Prostate cancer may develop without noticeable symptoms in its early stages. However, as it progresses, common symptoms can include frequent urination (especially at night), weak or interrupted urine flow, blood in the urine or semen, painful urination or ejaculation, and persistent pain in the back, hips, or pelvis.

While the exact causes of prostate cancer are unknown, there are several factors that increase the risk. These include, age (particularly after 50), family history, ethnicity (higher risk for African-American men), high-fat diets and obesity, and elevated levels of testosterone and other androgens.
