Actor Vijay Sethupathi’s son Surya Sethupathi has recently made his big screen debut with Anl Arasu’s action film Phoenix. Surya has recently reflected on the most-discussed ‘nepo kid’ tag. He revealed that the tag and the criticism don’t affect him.
In a recent interview with News18, Surya said, “There’s nothing wrong with calling someone a nepo kid. It means your father had some legacy, right? You are going to start something new.”
He elaborated, “As a nepo kid, the one thing you have to do is work harder than your dad. You have a big barrier before you that you need to break. There will be a lot of struggles, but they will teach you many lessons.”
The actor also suggested that he doesn’t intend to win anything in cinema and just wants to ‘enjoy the art form’, ‘do a lot of action movies and try different stunts.’
Surya's latest comment came after he received backlash for not acknowledging the privilege he has received. After the Phoenix announcement, Surya mentioned facing 'hardships' in childhood, and revealed his father gave him Rs 500 daily for expenses. However, Surya has since opened up about being a nepotism kid, seemingly having a different perspective now.
Phoenix also stars Abhinakshathra, J Vignesh, Sampath Raj, Devadarshini, and others in pivotal roles and was released in the theatres on July 4. The film is about a young wrestler struggling to fight against power-hungry people.
Surya has previously starred in his father Sethupathi’s films as a child actor.
