Actor Vijay Deverakonda has long been one of the most mysterious stars in Indian cinema. Even though the actor has a large fan base and has been in the spotlight for years, he has always maintained a clear separation between his personal and professional lives.
The Arjun Reddy actor has now revealed why, despite having previously acknowledged that he is in a relationship, he still fiercely guards his private life in a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter India.
In an earlier interview, the actor had made headlines by frankly stating, “Of course, I’m 35. I’m not single,” when asked about his relationship status. While fans and media speculated, especially linking him to actress Rashmika Mandanna, Vijay chose not to elaborate. And now, he’s explained why.
“I’ve always felt like acting demands a strange duality,” he said. “On one hand, you want the world to recognise and appreciate your work, but on the other, you yearn to stay invisible. It’s a bit of a psychological conflict — a kind of split between being known and remaining anonymous.”
Vijay admitted that he sometimes wishes he could completely detach his personal self from his public persona. “I used to joke that if I could wear a mask and let someone else be the face of ‘Vijay Deverakonda the star’ while I just did the acting, I’d take that option. I operate for him — the actor version of me.”
This philosophy is why he continues to keep his personal life as shielded as possible. “I try to keep it as personal as I can, to the best of my abilities. I’m not sure how successful I am at it, but I do make the effort.”
He acknowledges the perks that come with fame — the admiration, respect, and comfort — but he remains grounded about their source. “I’m not sure if people like me for who I am, or just because of my films. Everyone connects for different reasons.”
Reflecting on his journey so far, he concluded, “I wouldn’t trade any part of it — the highs, the lows, the struggles, or the joys. Everything I’ve experienced has shaped the man I am today.”

On the work front, Vijay is set to return to the big screen with his upcoming film Kingdom. The actor has already made waves with his intense, rugged look revealed in the newly released promo.
