Director SS Rajamouli finally lifted the curtains on one of the year’s most talked-about projects, and the reveal came with the kind of frenzy only he can trigger. His much-anticipated action epic starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran now has an official title: Varanasi. The announcement landed during a massive event at Ramoji Film City today (November 15), where thousands of fans gathered to witness the title and motion posters on giant screens.
The first wave of excitement came with the character posters of Priyanka and Prithviraj, but the loudest cheers were saved for Mahesh Babu’s entry.
His motion poster played out like a mythic fever dream. The actor charges forward on a dusty road, riding a bull and wielding a trishul as towering temples loom in the background.
The clip closes with the title Varanasi appearing across the screen. It set social media on fire instantly.
Rajamouli hinted earlier that the film’s name would be shared during this grand showcase, writing, “The title of the film will be revealed along with a visual to the world… Once it airs on the big screen at the #GlobeTrotter event, we will make it live online.” As soon as the visuals dropped, reactions flooded X and Instagram, from fans calling the poster “mass overload” to others decoding hidden clues in the imagery.
This confirmation comes weeks after rumours floated that the project, earlier referred to as GlobeTrotter, might be set in or inspired by the holy city.
The new title only strengthens that theory, even though the makers have kept the plot under wraps. Industry buzz suggests a story that puts Mahesh, Priyanka, and Prithviraj’s characters on a sweeping, high-stakes journey with strong cultural and spiritual undertones.

The event itself was mounted like a festival. According to IANS, industry sources described it as a “cultural moment,” adding, “The Grand Globetrotter Event on November 15 is shaping into a cultural moment in itself. The scale being planned is unlike anything the industry has attempted; we are looking at over 50,000+ fans gathering under one roof. It will be the biggest ever stage and screen in films across the world, with a 100 ft height and a 130 ft wide screen.”
The buzz only grew when Prithviraj’s look as Kumbha lit up the internet. Industry insiders say the film is now entering a phase where every update is likely to dominate conversations. “The magnitude, energy, and build-up are unprecedented,” the report added, framing this event as “one of the biggest ever mounted in Indian entertainment.”
With Rajamouli at the helm and a trio of powerful stars leading the cast, Varanasi has already positioned itself as one of the defining releases of the year. The wait for the full trailer just became a lot more intense.
