Gold prices in India have soared, crossing the unprecedented Rs 1 lakh per 10 grams mark on April 22, 2025. While financial experts are busy analyzing the reasons behind the surge, social media users have turned their attention to a surprising — and hilarious — ‘analyst’: Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor.

A decades-old clip from the 1989 film Guru has resurfaced and gone viral for its uncannily accurate prediction of gold prices. In the scene, Shakti Kapoor’s character Vicky delivers a dramatic monologue predicting the meteoric rise of gold: “Uske baad humare sone ka bhaav badhega. 5,000 rupya tola, 10,000 ka tola, 50,000 ka tola, 1 lakh tola!” Fans have been left in splits, calling Kapoor a “visionary” and dubbing him the “real analyst” for seemingly foreseeing the gold rate boom 35 years ago.

The meme fest on X (formerly Twitter) has been relentless. One user quipped, “The Real Analyst, Shakti Kapoor predicted gold rates 35 years ago. Salute to him,” while another added, “Shakti Kapoor is the best stock market analyst. Predicted gold to hit 1 lac decades back.” Another user joked, “Now have to dig into old movies to check the predictions on #GoldPrice… perfect from Shakti Kapoor!”

The 1989 movie Guru, directed by Umesh Mehra, featured Mithun Chakraborty, Sridevi, and Shakti Kapoor. While Kapoor played the antagonist Vicky, it’s this one particular scene that has now taken on new life in the digital era.
