Samay Raina blames parents for kids watching adult content: 'My father used to beat me when I watch television as a child'

Now that the video has gone viral, discussions about the function of content producers in the online sphere are being rekindled.

“Do you think a person like me has a responsibility to not drink Coke and to not be myself? I drink Coke at home, do you think I should fake it in public places and promote drinking water instead?" he asked health influencer Revant Himatsingka, widely known as Food Pharmer.

When Revant responded, “Yes, I think it will leave an impression on kids 8-10 years of age," Samay offered a blunt counterpoint: “If someone as young as eight-ten years old is watching me, then their parents have failed."

He continued, “When I was that age, my father would beat me if I watched television. I didn’t watch television then. I never got influenced by all this and I really think he did a great job as a father. So the parents are the ones who need to be responsible and not me. I have to be myself. If I want to influence people to do something, it is just to be honest."

Samay defended his unscripted and unfiltered presence online, stating, "There are too many fake people in this world. Public gets depressed when they see someone so perfect, doing and saying all the right things, it attacks your confidence and you start to question yourself, ‘Is there anything wrong with me?’ Then comes a guy like me, just being myself, drinking Coke, saying wrong things. They be like, ‘You know what? It’s okay to be me, because this is who I relate to.'"

The comedian was the target of public outrage earlier this year when podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia asked an inappropriate question during a rerun episode of India's Got Latent. Multiple FIRs were filed against the panel members as a result of the backlash, and Samay was compelled to remove all show-related content.
