The father of the suspected attacker in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing incident has come forward to defend his son, claiming that he has been falsely accused and wrongly implicated in the case.
In a statement, the father expressed his belief that his son is innocent and that there has been a misunderstanding surrounding the event. He urged the authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and clear his son's name.
The case, which has drawn significant attention, has raised questions about the circumstances leading to the attack, and the investigation is ongoing as police work to uncover the truth behind the incident.
In a recent interview, Mohammad Ruhul Amin Fakir stated that the individual seen in the CCTV footage does not resemble his son, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, casting doubt on the allegations against him.
While talking to news agency IANS, the father mentioned, "From what is shown in the CCTV... my son never keeps his hair long. I believe my son is being framed,"
According to his father, Shariful, originally from Bangladesh, had relocated to India because of the political turmoil in his homeland.
"He left Bangladesh and came to India for one reason, the political unrest in Bangladesh. He was working where he received a salary, and his employer even rewarded him," Amin Fakir said.
The father explained that his son was only trying to earn a livelihood in a foreign land, and had moved to Mumbai from West Bengal in search of better-paying jobs in the city's hotels. Despite the serious allegations against his son, Fakir claimed that he had not received any communication from the police regarding the matter.
“We don't know anyone in India. We have no support in India," he further mentioned.
Amin Fakir also shared that he had spoken to his son last Friday, the day after the attack on Saif Ali Khan took place. He mentioned that his son would typically receive his salary on the 10th of each month, and would call him shortly after.
Actor Saif Ali Khan was assaulted at his Bandra home last Thursday during a botched burglary attempt. He suffered six stab wounds and spent the following five days receiving treatment at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai.
The Mumbai Police apprehended the suspect on January 19 in Thane. Reports suggest that he was attempting to escape to Bangladesh before being caught.
In the latest development, Saif Ali Khan has formally provided his statement to the authorities regarding the attack that occurred last Thursday.
