Richa, who gave birth to a daughter on July 16, 2024, with husband Ali Fazal, provided an honest and open glimpse into the emotional turmoil she has been going through. She spoke of a sense of detachment despite the happiness of bringing a new life into the world, stating that she has been living her life almost as a witness. “For the past few months, I have been grappling with something, while experiencing my life as a new mom, almost as a witness… and with that, emotions that come like waves of the ocean,” she wrote.

The universality she ascribes to these emotions is what gives her message even more impact. Richa stressed that this emotional burden appears to be a common experience for people from all walks of life and is not specific to her circumstances as a new mother. “No matter who I speak to, whether they live in India or not, whether they’re young or old, regardless of gender, atheists or God-fearing, artists or normies—there is an inexplicable sadness. A feeling of impending and imminent doom. A numb kind of hopelessness, born out of strife and struggle,” she continued.
