The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched CMS-03, its heaviest communication satellite, today. The launch has marked a significant milestone in space history and demonstrated the country's technological prowess as it moves closer to independence in space exploration.
The satellite, which was designed to improve broadcasting and telecommunications, was launched into orbit by ISRO's most potent launch vehicle, which is now affectionately known as "Baahubali."
As ISRO once again referred to the launch of the satellite by the film's iconic title, renowned director SS Rajamouli, whose popular franchise Baahubali became a cultural landmark, expressed his deep pride.
SS Rajamouli took to his social media and congratulated the space agency. The filmmaker wrote in the caption, “Congratulations to #ISRO on the successful launch of the heaviest communication satellite CMS-03 today!”
He expressed pride and continued, “A proud moment for India showcasing our technological strength and self-reliance in space exploration. Onwards and upwards! Our entire Baahubali team is elated as @ISRO fondly named this rocket ‘Bahubali’... due to its heaviness and strength.. Truly a privilege for all of us.”
Meanwhile, Rajamouli's attachment to the occasion transcends sentimentality. With its larger-than-life storytelling, deeper mythology, and grander visuals, his film Baahubali: The Epic, which debuted in theatres on October 31, 2025, built upon the legacy of the original franchise.
Bahubali: The Epic is a single-film adaptation of the Baahubali story that combines footage from both films with selective changes, restored or previously unreleased scenes, and new technical improvements.
The film hit the theatres on October 31, 2025, in a number of high-end formats, including IMAX, 4DX, D-Box, Dolby Cinema, and EPIQ. The film was released in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam.
