Marathi television and film actress Priya Marathe, best remembered for her powerful roles in serials and her cheerful presence on set, passed away at the age of 38 after a prolonged battle with cancer. The actress, who had been undergoing treatment for several years, breathed her last on Sunday, leaving behind a void in the Marathi entertainment industry.
Early Career and Acting Journey
Priya began her acting career with television serials and quickly became a familiar face in Marathi households. With her natural performances, expressive eyes, and ability to adapt to any character, she gained recognition across both television and films. Over the years, she portrayed a variety of roles, ranging from light-hearted, comic characters to intense, emotionally charged performances.
Audiences admired her ability to bring authenticity to her work. Colleagues often praised her discipline, warmth, and dedication to every project she was part of. Whether it was television dramas, films, or stage performances, Priya Marathe was known for leaving a mark on her audience.
Actor Subodh Bhave, one of Priya’s long-time co-actors and a close friend, shared an emotional note after her passing. In his heartfelt tribute, Bhave recalled that their bond went beyond co-stardom.
“Priya was my younger sister more than a co-star,” Bhave wrote. “Her hard work, discipline, and faith in her craft were admirable. Every role she played, she did it with utmost honesty and sincerity.”
He also revealed that despite being diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, Priya never let the disease define her. She fought through treatment and pain to return to acting, eager to connect with her audience again.
Cancer Diagnosis and Relapse
Priya’s health struggles began a few years ago when she was first diagnosed with cancer. She underwent treatment and, with remarkable determination, managed to return to television. She took part in plays, serials, and continued to act, proving her resilience in the face of adversity.
But as Subodh Bhave disclosed in his tribute, her cancer relapsed while she was shooting for a TV show. During the production of “Tu Bhetashi Navyane,” Priya faced another setback in her health. Yet, she continued working, hiding her struggles behind her smile and professionalism.
“She came back to work, despite knowing the pain,” Bhave wrote. “On set, she gave the audience the same effortless performance. But behind it all, she was carrying a burden we could barely imagine.”
Throughout her journey, Priya was supported by her husband, actor Shantanu Moghe. Bhave acknowledged Shantanu’s unwavering presence during Priya’s treatment and career. “In this entire journey, her partner Shantanu stood firmly by her side. He was her pillar of strength,” he shared.
Bhave’s tribute captured the sense of loss many felt:
“My sister was a fighter, but in the end, her strength gave way. Priya, heartfelt tributes to you. May you find eternal peace wherever you are.”
