Priyanka Chopra, the renowned global star, is gearing up for a much-awaited comeback to Indian films after six years. She will feature alongside Telugu megastar Mahesh Babu in a thrilling venture helmed by SS Rajamouli, the Oscar-winning director of RRR.
Recent reports suggest that Prithviraj Sukumaran, famed for Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil, is speculated to portray the antagonist.
Speaking to Pinkvilla, reports revealed that SS Rajamouli is preparing for his next grand cinematic project after the massive success of Baahubali and RRR. Production is set to commence in April 2025, with Priyanka Chopra reportedly cast as the female lead opposite Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu. This collaboration, combining Rajamouli's penchant for epic blockbusters with the star power of Priyanka and Mahesh, has already stirred excitement among fans, who are eagerly awaiting further updates on the highly anticipated venture.
"The film is in the final stages of writing, and is all set to go on floors in April 2025. SS Rajamouli was looking for a female lead with global presence, and who better than Priyanka to play the lead role. The filmmaker had multiple meetings with PC over the last 6 months, and the energies have aligned for both the stakeholders," the source stated.
SS Rajamouli's SSMB29 will mark Priyanka Chopra's comeback to Indian cinema after a six-year gap, her last appearance being in The Sky Is Pink.
“Priyanka Chopra is excited to collaborate with a maverick like SS Rajamouli and partner with Mahesh Babu to create an adventure like never before. It’s an unchartered territory for her as well, and the character has scope for a lot of action along with the leading man – Mahesh Babu. It’s a well crafted role, and Priyanka has already started her prep for the film,” the source furtehr added.
SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film with Mahesh Babu is slated to wrap up filming by late 2026, with a grand theatrical release planned for 2027. The director has been in talks with global studios, such as Disney and Sony, for over a year regarding collaboration. The movie will be shot across diverse locations, including Indian studios, the US, and Africa's forests.
