Birthday wishes for Anurag Kashyap came with a cinematic twist this year. On the filmmaker’s special day, the team behind the much-anticipated film Dacoit unveiled the first glimpse of his character — Swamy, a no-nonsense, fearless cop.
The images show Kashyap in an intense, striking look as an Ayyappa devotee, a transformation that has already set social media abuzz and raised the stakes for the upcoming action drama.
Headlined by Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, Dacoit is being billed as a high-octane action-drama woven with a deeply emotional love story.
The story revolves around a vengeful prisoner who is determined to exact revenge on his ex-girlfriend for her betrayal.
His scheme to trap her turns into a tale of love, revenge, and heartache, with enough suspense to keep viewers interested.
The film also marks a big moment for cinematographer-turned-director Shaneil Deo, who takes the director’s chair for the first time.
Backed by Supriya Yarlagadda as producer, Suniel Narang as co-producer, and presented by Annapurna Studios, the project is already shaping up to be one of the most ambitious pan-India films in the pipeline.
Adding to the intrigue, Adivi Sesh himself has co-written the script and screenplay alongside Deo. The makers are shooting the film simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, underlining its pan-India intent. Filming is currently underway in Hyderabad, with an extensive schedule lined up in Maharashtra before wrapping.

The release date has been locked for Christmas 2025, giving the film prime positioning as one of the year’s big-ticket holiday attractions. With its combination of powerful action, emotional drama, and a stellar cast, Dacoit is already one of the most talked-about projects of 2025.
But it’s Kashyap’s intense turn as Swamy that has really grabbed eyeballs. Known more for his work behind the camera, fans are excited to see him embrace a character with such grit and gravity. If the first glimpses are anything to go by, Dacoit could deliver a Kashyap performance that’s as memorable as the films he’s directed.
