Directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by Matchbox Shots in association with Benaras Mediaworks, the series is based on the book "Flight Into Fear" by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury. It chronicles the events of the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 and the subsequent negotiations for the release of the hostages. The series offers a glimpse into the intense diplomacy within Delhi's War Room and the tense exchanges at Kandahar's Negotiation Station.

Expressing his gratitude, Anubhav Sinha said, "Working on IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has been a deep and meaningful journey as we tried to capture the essence of this historical event with authenticity and respect. The team and I are incredibly proud to be able to showcase the first two episodes of the series at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is a story of the events that transpired across those seven days and begs viewers to ask - do we truly know all that happened during the incident? It’s incredibly rewarding to witness how the series resonated with viewers and reflected the emotional weight of the thrilling tactical and diplomatic manoeuvres."
