Nayanthara and her husband, director Vignesh Shivan, have found themselves in a public spat with actor Dhanush. The controversy erupted after Dhanush sent a legal notice to Nayanthara over her upcoming Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. In response, Nayanthara penned an open letter accusing Dhanush of jealousy and obstruction, while Vignesh took to social media to mock a past speech by Dhanush.
Earlier today, Nayanthara released an open letter addressing Dhanush's legal actions. She accused him of being envious of those who succeed in the film industry without extensive networks. Nayanthara specifically mentioned that Dhanush had intentionally prevented them from using content from the film Nannum Rowdy Dhaan in her documentary. This film, which both actors starred in, holds significant relevance to her career and personal life.
Supporting his wife, Vignesh Shivan posted an old clip of Dhanush from the audio launch of the 2017 film Sakka Podu Podu Raja, where Dhanush spoke about love, hate, and creative collaboration. In the speech, Dhanush had emphasised the importance of celebrating others' successes and avoiding negativity. Vignesh used this clip to highlight the perceived hypocrisy, captioning his post, "Vaazhu Vaazha udu #spreadLove #OmNamaShivaya at least for the sake of some innocent die-hard fans who believe all of this! I sincerely pray to God! For People to change and find happiness in other people’s happiness."
The caption appeared to mock Dhanush’s past advice, urging him to practice what he preaches. Vignesh stressed the importance of living and letting live, especially for the sake of fans who look up to their idols.
In her letter, Nayanthara expressed her disappointment, stating, "It hurts that this decision of yours is only to vent out your personal grudge against us and that you have deliberately remained indecisive this long." She also took a jab at Dhanush's public persona, writing, "I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans, but clearly, you do not practice what you preach, at least not for me and my partner."
Nayanthara went on to accuse Dhanush of being tyrannical and small-hearted. She emphasised the importance of large-hearted behavior and decency among public figures, suggesting that Dhanush's actions were unbecoming of his status. "Leaving apart business competition, prominent persons in public life largely do not tamper with others' private lives. Courtesy and decency mandates large-hearted behaviour in such matters," she wrote.
Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale is set to release on Netflix in the coming week. The documentary offers an intimate look into Nayanthara's life, her journey in the film industry, and the challenges she has faced. As the "lady superstar" of Tamil cinema, Nayanthara's story is one of resilience and success against the odds.
As of now, Dhanush and his team have not responded to Nayanthara's open letter or Vignesh’s social media post.
