Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, marked what would have been his 53rd birthday with a heartbreaking yet loving tribute, letting the world see just how deeply she is holding on to his memory.
On Tuesday, the costume designer shared an emotional Instagram post.
In her birthday tribute, Garima posted a series of photographs, small windows into their life together. One showed her feeding him cake at a past celebration, another captured them on their wedding day, while others reflected the early years of their relationship.
Alongside the memories, she wrote in Assamese, “From this birth to the next, I will write my stories with you, Goldie... Happy birthday! Stay safe.”
Fans, too, showed their unwavering love. In the early hours of Tuesday morning, many gathered at Zubeen’s cremation site.
They cut cakes, sang his ever-popular Mayabini, and tried to celebrate the artist who gave them so much music, emotion, and pride. It was a bittersweet sight—joy wrapped tightly around grief.
Zubeen’s sudden death on 19 September in Singapore continues to weigh heavily on his family, his fans, and the entire North East music community.
The singer had gone for a swim while in the city to attend the three-day North East India Festival. He was found floating face down in the sea, a moment that sent shockwaves through the industry and led to the festival being cancelled immediately.

In the months since his death, Garima has been vocal about her doubts regarding the official narrative, calling the circumstances “mysterious” and urging a thorough investigation into what really happened.
Her concerns gained more weight when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on 3 November that the government aims to file a chargesheet by 8 December, stating that the case points to “a murder and not an accident.”
Seven people have been arrested so far, including festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta. Others in custody include the singer’s cousin, Sandipan Garg, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, his band manager Siddharth Sharma, and two members of his band.
