In a landmark move reflecting Hollywood's global embrace, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to 487 new members for its Class of 2024, marking a significant milestone for diversity and international representation. Among the distinguished invitees are several prominent Indian talents, including visionary filmmaker SS Rajamouli, acclaimed actor Shabana Azmi, and the creative duo of Rama Rajamouli and Ritesh Sidhwani.

This year's invitees boast an impressive collective resume: 71 Oscar nominees, including 19 winners, highlighting their profound impact on cinema worldwide. Joining them are esteemed figures like cinematographer Ravi Varman, celebrated director Rima Das, and choreographer Prem Rakshith, whose contributions have enriched storytelling across cultures.

The Academy's decision underscores its commitment to diversity, with 44% of the new class comprising women and 41% representing underrepresented ethnic and racial communities. This global outreach is further emphasised by members hailing from 56 countries and territories beyond the United States.

Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy, and President Janet Yang expressed their enthusiasm, stating, "We are thrilled to welcome this year's class of new members to the Academy. These remarkably talented artists and professionals from around the world have made a significant impact on our filmmaking community."

Upon acceptance, each invitee will align with a specific branch of the Academy, ensuring their voices shape the future of film through voting and governance. With membership poised to exceed 10,900, and over 9,000 eligible to vote, the Academy continues to evolve as a beacon of cinematic excellence and inclusivity on the global stage.
