‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ actress Melissa Joan Hart expressed her remorse over taking underage pop star Britney Spears to her first nightclub.
The actress recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her relationship with Spears. Their friendship started developing after Hart starred in Spears’ music video for the song ‘You Drive Me Crazy’ in 1999.
Hart stated that she would often do press with Spears which led them to develop a sisterly bond with each other. Hart is 6 years older than the pop star.
“Britney and I got to do a lot of press together. And we had a lot of fun together during this time. I saw that she was just surrounded by people, never able to break free. And I was like, ‘Hey want to come?’” said the ‘Dear Christmas’ actress.
During that time, Joan Hart would go to the club almost every night and wanted Spears to join her so that she could break free from her shell.
“I love dancing and I loved going out, but I also knew to be responsible and, like, when to stop. She was underage and young but I was just like, 'Let’s go out. We’re just gonna go out and have some fun’. And I feel really guilty about that still to this day because I should have known better, being a big sister,” said Hart.
Melissa Joan Hart will be seen in the upcoming Lifetime film titled ‘The Bad Guardian’ which follows a woman whose father has been placed in a conservatorship while she’s out of town.
In an interview with People, the actress spoke about the script and Britney Spears’ conservatorship.
“In the Britney version we see in real life, for her, it's her fighting to get out of her own conservatorship. This movie is very much about me, the daughter of a man who's been taken to the hospital and then from there put into a guardianship. So I'm a small-town woman that doesn't have the money to pay for the big fancy lawyers to fight the big system,” Hart said.
Britney Spears was in an illegal conservatorship for nearly 14 years which was finally ended back in 2021.
