The Aussie hunk of muscle, Chris Hemsworth in an interview with Vanity Fair on his upcoming action/adventure film helmed by the visionary George Miller, ‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,’ spoke about the limits of his role in the 2022 'Thor: Love and Thunder.'
The 40 year old star said he regrets 'Thor: Love and Thunder,' because he felt he became a “parody” of himself in his badly received box office hit (it made a whopping 760 million dollars). He also added: "Yeah, I'm part of this big thing, but I'm probably pretty replaceable.”
Hemsworth also stated that when he used to go through his other co stars’ lines he used to feel jealous about them having cooler lines than he did. He felt as though his colleagues were having more fun with what they were doing while he was lost in the “improv and the wackiness” of 'Thor'.
The actor has been ever grateful for his career-defining role as 'Thor' in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but he attested to the fact that he grew frustrated with the character after playing him in four standalone and plenty other Marvel movies.
Though he seems to have achieved absolute stardom with his MCU pursuit along with his action flicks, he wants to grow more as an actor. He told Vanity Fair that he wants to venture outside of the action movie genre and collaborate with the big league dramatic filmmakers, like Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer, 2023), Katherine Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty, 2012), Greta Gerwig (Barbie, 2023), Martin Scorsese (The Killers of The Flower Moon, 2023), and Steven Spielberg (The Fabelmans).
"Why didn't that director call me for that or why didn't I get considered for this role? Why don't I get the call-up from Scorsese or Tarantino? I had begun to take it all too serious and too personal."
Its not an everyday occurrence that an A-list actor humbly acknowledges their limits as a character actor as well as their own anxieties about wanting to develop their career into a much more meaningful craft. Not to please the audiences but to please thine own self.
His portrayal of the motorsports racing driver, James Hunt in the Ron Howard directed sports drama, 'Rush' (2013) was a major breakthrough role in his work as an actor. Seeing him on the big screen as somebody other than the same old ‘action hero’ archetype would definitely cement him as a formidable thespian.
