The Pacific Palisades home of late actor Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the iconic sitcom Friends, has been sold to Anita Verma-Lallian, a real estate developer and film producer with Indian roots. The property, where Perry was tragically found unresponsive last year, was purchased by Anita for $8.55 million (approximately Rs 72.04 crore) in an off-market deal.
Anita Verma-Lallian shared her excitement on social media about her new home, posting photos and videos to her Instagram account. She mentioned that she bought the house during the festival of Diwali, a time of celebration and new beginnings in Indian culture. In one of her posts, Anita said, “We are so excited to share that we bought a home in Los Angeles earlier this month!” She explained that the moment she walked into the house, she instantly loved it, especially the view of the Pacific Ocean, which convinced her to make an offer right away.
The couple also performed a pooja as they entered the new home.
The house, which spans 3,500 square feet, is located in the hills and offers stunning ocean views. It is situated on a roughly half-acre plot and features multiple outdoor amenities, including a fire pit, several covered patios, and large glass walls that open up to the backyard. The property includes four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, a spacious living room, dining room, a chef’s kitchen, and a built-in wine wall. The design is minimalist, with white-and-gray cabinetry giving the home a sleek, modern feel.
While Anita was drawn to the house because of its beauty and location, she also made sure to pay tribute to its previous owner, Matthew Perry. In her post, she emphasized that her decision to buy the house had nothing to do with the tragic circumstances surrounding Perry's passing. Instead, it was the home's features that caught her attention. However, she also mentioned that she wanted to honor the legacy of Matthew Perry by keeping some of the unique features he had added to the house.
One of the features that will remain is the Batman logo in the pool, which Perry had included in the backyard. Anita shared her plans to keep this as part of the home’s charm. She wrote, “We chose to honor the positive aspects of the previous owner’s life, his immense talent, and all the joy he brought to so many people.”
As for other changes, Anita mentioned that she would be adding her personal touch to the property to make it the perfect vacation home for her family. “It’s a piece of paradise that is filled with light and the perfect vacation home for us. Can’t wait to make new memories in it,” she wrote on Instagram.
Matthew Perry had purchased the house in 2020 for $6 million (Rs 50.5 crore). Over the years, he made several improvements to the property, including the addition of a swimming pool with an attached hot tub. Tragically, it was in that very pool where Perry was found unresponsive in October 2023. Despite the sad memory associated with the home, Anita chose to focus on the positive aspects of the property and the memories it holds.
The Pacific Palisades home was just one of several properties owned by Matthew Perry. He also had a penthouse in Los Angeles, which was later bought by pop star Rihanna for $21 million. Additionally, Perry owned a beach house in Malibu. Despite the personal loss, Anita’s purchase of the home and her decision to honor the memory of Matthew Perry reflect a sense of respect and reverence for the life he lived.
