Irrfan Khan, the late Bollywood icon, was known for his exceptional talent in the industry. His son, Babil Khan, following in his father's footsteps, entered the industry hoping for the same warmth and support, but it seems he has faced a different reality.
In a recent interview, Irrfan's wife and writer-producer Sutapa Sikdar shared that their son is nearly falling into depression due to the ongoing comparisons with his father.
In conversation with Hindustan Times, Sutapa Sikdar, the wife of the late actor Irrfan Khan, shared that their son, Babil Khan, faces immense pressure due to the constant comparisons with his father. She added that while the family is still mourning the tremendous loss, she feels that the pressure on Babil is excessive, saying, "Babil pe bahut zyada pressure hai aur mujhe yeh thik nahin lagta (Babil has a lot of pressure and I don’t feel it’s right)."
Sutapa emphasized that this pressure should not exist, pointing out that Irrfan Khan never experienced such pressure. She expressed her belief that when individuals are not pressured, their true individuality shines through.
She said, "It’s not only about work but also about losing the father figure, almost depression mein hai (he is almost in depression) Usmein yeh stress and compression all the time. As a mother, I feel, Please mere bachche ko chor do (Please, spare my child), Also, he is very vulnerable and does not have a fighter's spirit!"
Sutapa admitted that she and her father were very strong, but the Qala actor must have incurred it genetically from somewhere. She explained her point by citing an example of Junior Bachchan stating, "Like, Abhishek Bachchan did amazing work in I Want to Talk but wahi hai...comparisons with legendary Amitabh Bachchan have works against him."

According to Sutapa, Babil is going through a similar situation, and she hopes he will overcome it soon.
Earlier this year, Babil shared a poignant post hinting at his struggles. Ahead of his father's death anniversary, he posted on his Instagram story, "There are times when I feel like giving up and joining Baba." Although he later removed the post, the screenshot quickly went viral on social media.
On the work front, Babil made his acting debut with Qala, starring alongside Triptii Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee, followed by Friday Night Plan and The Railway Men. He is also reportedly set to star in The Umesh Chronicles, directed by Shoojit Sircar, which features the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.
